"The Null Mines" leaves the surface world behind, and plunges us deep into the depths of the earth. In the claustrophobic tunnels and sprawling caverns, the Order of the Blank's mining operation known as Null toils away (with entire generations of miners having gone their entire life without seeing the light of the sun). Null exists for the sole purpose of discovering rare veins of ore and arcanhile, for use on the surface in the front lines of the ongoing war against the mages. Due to their ancestral homes lying so close to the advancing Blank miners, the nycterians have found themselves at odds with Atreus III and his ilk. The nycterians have turned to covert resistance in an effort to prevent the stones of the earth from being disturbed. Using their intimate knowledge of the caverns, they sabotage mining equipment, collapse tunnels, and mislead the Blank’s survey teams.
